Morgan & Morgan will not be giving an inch to carriers

On Friday, March 24, the following email was sent to PI lawyers working for one of America’s largest injury law firm Morgan & Morgan:

“Good morning PI lawyers across the country!

As we enter this new era, I want to make it unequivocally clear that we will not be giving an inch to carriers ever again.

Not one inch.

Specifically, as a matter of policy we will not be granting any extensions of any sort moving forward for any reason.

They can figure it out or file a motion.

Under no circumstances will we be agreeing to any continuances, discovery extensions, or request to extend deadline to answer complaints.

Red line rules.

It will be serious internal offense if we find any courtesies being extended to the insurance industry.

Including cases filed prior to March.

No discovery extensions.

No matter the circumstances.

We may want to help the human being defense attorney because we know them and maybe like them, but we will not because they work for an enemy who is heartless and ruthless.

The enemy who just tried to kill us in FL.

They work for the enemy who would like nothing more but for you to be unemployed.

We work for the people.

Exclusively.

They tried to take from the most vulnerable people and consequently, from your families.

No extension for responses to our complaints.

If there are extenuating circumstances that would benefit our client only, please reach out to Matt or Jon Smith for prior approval

As a blanket rule we will be giving not one single inch.”

The email, with the subject line “Moving Forward – Not Once Inch” reads and appears as we shared it above.

As background, Morgan & Morgan is a law firm based in Orlando, Florida that was founded in 1988 by John and Ultima Morgan, who “have more charisma than their house has bathrooms — which is a lot.” Its practice areas include personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, class actions, and environmental law. Many people have heard and watched Morgan & Morgan’s commercials, which used to appear over 500 times per day. And if you grew up in Florida or lived in Detroit, you’ve probably seen the company’s billboard commercials.

“My brother was a senior in high school, he was a lifeguard at a resort. I was a sophomore at the University of Florida. We got a call one day from my father, telling me that my brother had been injured in an accident and was paralyzed from the chest down,” shares John Morgan in a video interview. “We got to see what happens when you are poor and you got a big injury. And we ended up hiring the wrong lawyer and Tim got really beat up. You’d think he was an ISIS terrorist the way they fought him. And I became outraged, and I decided then and there that I would only ever do this type of work.”

Coverager began investigating the context of the email on Tuesday, March 28, first through unofficial routes and then by contacting Matt Morgan – via email – yesterday. Matt Morgan shared with us an additional piece of communication that contributes to the broader picture:

Bottom Line: Morgan & Morgan’s website is forthepeople.com, but detractors allege it is simply “for the Morgans,” regardless, John Morgan has more character than some insurers have an appetite for coverage.
