Metromile debuts automated claims service

Today, Metromile, the pioneer in pay-per-mile car insurance, announced a new automated claims service. With the enhanced service, customers have the option to file the entire claim directly from their mobile phone or online dashboard. Some claims can even be resolved within an hour.

The new service has several breakthrough features including:

  • A unique claims algorithm serves each customer a streamlined and tailored experience related specifically to their situation
  • Check the status of a claim via the Metromile app
  • Opt-in to using data provided from the Metromile Pulse device to expedite the claims process
  • File and schedule glass-only repairs and claims with a customized online tool
  • Request roadside assistance from the Metromile app in seconds and track the tow truck en route

“At Metromile, we are on a mission to take the hassle out of car ownership, especially in the event that customers are in an accident,” said Luke Harris, Director of Claims at Metromile. “We are leveraging telematics and machine learning to develop proprietary claims algorithms to make the claims experience faster and more seamless. We’ll do whatever it takes to get our customers back on the road as soon as possible.”

In the event that customers need to file a claim, they will simply go to the Metromile website, dashboard or Metromile app to get started. If a customer wants additional support, each customer will have a dedicated claims representative to ensure the claim gets filed seamlessly.

This launch is part of the significant investment Metromile has made in improving the claims experience. In Sept., Metromile acquired Mosaic Insurance Company to become Metromile Insurance Company and underwrite its own policies. The company has also deployed best-in-class tools and hired top talent. Led by Sean Griswold and Luke Harris, both former leaders at Progressive, Metromile’s claims team is comprised of industry experts with more than 200 years of experience at major insurance companies. Recent hires include Sam Massey who left The Hartford to join the team as Major Case Lead in the Special Investigations Unit and John Clausen, previously Counsel at State Farm, who joined as the Sr. Claims Attorney. The group has innovative plans to continue to improve the claims experience and wants to remove the pain points of traditional car insurance.

Metromile is the leader in pay-per-mile car insurance in the United States, saving low mileage drivers $500 on average each year. Additionally, Metromile’s smart driving app and in-car telematics device help customers pinpoint their car’s exact location via the vehicle locator, track detailed information on every trip they take using trip tracking, keep their car in tip top shape with vehicle diagnostics and car health, as well as avoid parking tickets via the app’s street sweeping alerts feature (in select cities).

Metromile is licensed nationwide but currently underwriting policies in the states where Metromile insurance is available including N.J., Ore., Pa., Calif., Ill., Va. and Wash.
