Merchants Insurance Group adds Ellen Melchionni to board

Merchants Insurance Group has appointed Ellen D. Melchionni to its Board of Directors, effective January 2026.

Melchionni retired in 2025 after more than 30 years in the insurance industry, most recently serving as president of the New York Insurance Association (NYIA) from 2008 to 2025. In that role, she led the organization’s strategic and operational activities and served as its primary spokesperson on property and casualty industry issues.

Before joining NYIA, Melchionni spent a decade in leadership roles with the New York State Senate and Assembly. Throughout her career, she worked closely with regulators and policymakers and frequently testified on legislative matters affecting the insurance industry.

She currently serves on several industry and nonprofit boards and joined the Board of Directors of Greater New York Insurance Companies in 2025.
