Medical bills startup Better announces seed round

San Francisco-based Better raised $1.1 million to recruit a few engineers and to expand its customer base. The one-year-old startup offers a mobile app for filing out-of-network health insurance claims. Here’s how Better works. User enters personal and insurance information, takes a photo of the bill, and transmits it to Better. In return, the startup reviews the bill for incorrect information and missing data and works with payers and providers to identify and remedy errors. The company works with health insurers such as BlueCross BlueShield, HealthNet, Anthem and UnitedHealth Group; to name a few. Sounds familiar? It should.
