Markel backs Certa Insurance

Markel announced a strategic 49% investment in Certa Insurance , a tax managing general agent (MGA) based in the UK. This partnership will facilitate Certa’s product development and expansion plans while granting Markel increased access to the growing opportunities in the tax insurance sector.

Certa Insurance, established in 2019 by market professionals Ed Beckwith, Tom Cartwright, Rachel Hine, and Adam Singer, specializes in tax and contingent risk insurance. Headquartered in London with offices in Germany and Spain, Certa has become a prominent player in this niche market, supported by 12 capacity providers, including Markel.

Markel will collaborate with Certa’s management team to assist in executing the MGA’s business strategy. Additionally, this venture will complement Markel’s in-house Warranty and Indemnity (W&I) portfolio, offering M&A insurance coverage for SME transactions in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).
