Founded in May 2018 by Richard O’Connell, Leap allows renters to apply online after or before finding an apartment, as the company claims it is the first player in the space to offer pre-approvals. If approved, tenants pay a service fee equivalent to “less than 1 month’s rent” and Leap will offer coverage for leases up to 18 months. Coverage is provided by “an insurance company currently rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best.”
