Kansas City Life posts $28 million Q2 loss
Kansas City Life Insurance reported a net loss of $28.1 million in Q2 2025, compared to a $4.7 million profit a year earlier, driven by a $35.5 million legal settlement accrual related to class action lawsuits. Excluding the accrual, net income for the quarter would have been $7.5 million.
For the first half of 2025, the company recorded a $26.2 million net loss versus $6.3 million in the same period last year. Adjusted net income excluding the settlement was $9.3 million, reflecting lower policyholder benefits despite a decline in insurance and investment revenues. The company continues to pay a $0.14 quarterly dividend.
