Japan Post to Invest $2.6B in Aflac

Japan Post Holdings is planning to invest $2.64b to acquire a ~7%  stake in Aflac; aiming to become the largest shareholder in the company.

The insurer’s local brand – Aflac Life Insurance Japan – sells cancer insurance. After making the investment, the holding company plans to expand Aflac’s cancer insurance products sold at post office counters, jointly develop new products and collaborate in asset management with the insurer.

 

 

Bottom Line: as of September 2017, Japan Post had 24,000 offices and 400,000 employees.
