helden.de acquired pet insurance broker TIERdirekt

helden.de acquired pet insurer TIERdirekt from founder Dr. Stephan Haverkamp and from Munich Re.

Munich Re will support the new setup both as a primary insurer through Great Lakes Insurance SE and as a risk carrier.

“In the first year of the corona pandemic alone, the number of pets in Germany rose by over a million. Pets are now integrated into our society as full members of the family. Animal health insurance is therefore not just a trending topic, but an enormous growth market. We have had animal liability insurance in our range since 2017, with annual growth rates in premium volume of 75%. With the takeover of TIERdirekt, we are consistently going one step further in order to be able to cover comprehensive veterinary treatment costs for our customers. With TIERdirekt, we are integrating an extremely innovative and digital partner that fits perfectly into the existing landscape of our insurance offerings. And with Munich Re we still have a very strong partner on board as a risk carrier.” – Jan Louis Schmidt, founder and managing director of helden.de.

TIERdirekt was founded in 2018 by Stephan Haverkamp together with Munich Re as a partner. It was the only provider in Germany that was able to completely digitize the performance check and integrate it into the leading billing systems for veterinarians.

“After the first joint discussions, the great agreement in the corporate philosophies was visible and noticeable. The customer perspective is the central starting point for the development of our insurance products and services. With helden.de we will continue to offer our customers the best possible and most sensible protection for their pets. The merger allows us to use synergies and significantly accelerate our growth with the scalability of helden.de. In this way, we ensure an excellent price-performance ratio with the highest level of digital convenience for all of our customers.” – Stephan Haverkamp.
