HanseMerkur offers new coverage for bicycles and e-bikes in Austria

German insurer HanseMerkur has expanded to offer coverage for bicycles and e-bikes in Austria.

“Traveling on two wheels has not only been booming since the corona pandemic. Many people prefer the freedom and independence of bicycles and e-bikes to transport by car and train – also in a professional context. We are geared towards this need and are expanding our range of travel and leisure activities. With the new insurance cover, bicycles and e-bikes are optimally protected and the new joy of cycling remains undimmed.” – Fuad Izmirlija, Country Manager Austria of HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung.

The underwriter is BD24 Berlin Direkt Versicherung, a subsidiary of HanseMerkur, which specializes in securing bicycles and e-bikes.

Austrians are thought to pay a high price for their mobility . They spend more on bicycles and e-bikes than the Germans or the Swiss, for example. According to a current study by the Association of Sports Goods Manufacturers and Sports Equipment Suppliers in Austria, they pay an average of 1,769 euros for a bicycle and as much as 3,012 euros for an e-bike.

This also increases the need to secure the investment, especially against theft. The basic version of the new policy, therefore, offers worldwide protection in the event of theft or theft of parts, with e-bikes including the battery. The bike is not only insured at your own place of residence but also everywhere when traveling.

If the bike is stolen, Berlin Direkt Versicherung will replace the new value.

The offer can be via hansemerkur.at as well as well-known comparison portals and will soon also be available in bicycle shops.
