General Motors plans to integrate a Google AI chatbot into its OnStar service
General Motors (GM) and Google Cloud have teamed up to integrate Google’s conversational AI into GM vehicles through the OnStar Interactive Virtual Assistant.
This technology helps drivers with navigation and answers common questions. The partnership, which began in 2019, has expanded to explore more uses of AI in GM vehicles. GM’s OnStar service now handles over a million customer inquiries a month in the U.S. and Canada. The collaboration has also led to chatbots on GM’s websites to assist customers with vehicle-related questions.
GM received an industry award for its broad use of AI in collaboration with Google Cloud.
“Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the buying, ownership, and interaction experience inside the vehicle and beyond, enabling more opportunities to deliver new features and services. Our software-led approach has accelerated the creation of compelling services for our customers while driving increased efficiency across the GM enterprise. The work with Google Cloud is another example of our efforts to transform how customers engage with our products and services.” – Mike Abbott, executive vice president, Software and Services, GM.
“General Motors is at the forefront of deploying AI in practical and effective ways that ultimately create better customer experiences. We’re looking forward to a deepened relationship and more collaboration with GM as we explore how the company uses generative AI in transformational ways.” – Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.
