Chris Motta joins Baltimore Life as VP, Chief Actuary

Baltimore Life announced the appointment of Chris Motta as Vice President, Chief Actuary.

As chief actuary, Motta’s primary focus will be overseeing actuarial pricing and valuation functions including research, and ensuring Baltimore Life continues to develop important capabilities within the actuarial department. He will provide leadership and professional development for the actuarial staff, utilizing recent developments in actuarial practice to drive the company towards its strategic goals. Motta will report to Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Richard A. Spencer, III.

“We’re excited Chris joined us. His prior role was as a valuation actuary. He also has experience with principles-based reserving, which will support the company’s 2021 implementation effort. The role of the chief actuary is important for the company. It will provide leadership as the actuarial infrastructure expands to meet the needs of the enterprise,” said Spencer.

Motta earned his degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries as well as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has worked in the life insurance industry for 13 years.
