Cellcontrol and Ohio Mutual – Still Going Strong

Ohio Mutual is now offering policyholders with drivers under the age of 21 the opportunity to cut premiums by 10% by using Cellcontrol’s DriveID technology meant to curb distracted driving by restricting the driver’s use of a cell phone behind the wheel. DriveID consists of an online account, a device that mounts inside the windshield under the rearview mirror and a smartphone app. Once the account is set up, a designated administrator can determine which settings, permissions and notifications can be used with the cell phones connected to it.

Policyholders do however need to purchase the device from their agent for $85 and an annual subscription fee of $94.50. An activation fee of $39.95 is being waived for policyholders enrolled in the insurer’s Ascend Auto program launched this year that is meant to offer more competitive rates, accident forgiveness and other features. Cellcontrol, which was launched in 2009, has entered into a partnership with Ohio Mutual last year. Allstate, Esurance and Liberty Mutual are also partners.
