Carbon-credit insurer CarbonPool raises $12 million
Carbon-credit insurer CarbonPool has closed an €11.2 million funding round, led by Heartcore Capital and Vorwerk Ventures, with participation from HCS Capital, Revent Ventures, and former members of the management board of the insurance giant Allianz, namely Axel Theis and Christof Mascher. The startup, founded in 2023 by former Allianz executives Coenraad Vrolijk, Nandini Wilcke, and Frederic Olbert, aims to be a global leader in carbon credit-backed insurance.
CarbonPool, headquartered in Zurich, provides clients with carbon credits to offset unexpected deficits and reversals in carbon credits, which can occur due to natural catastrophes, adverse weather conditions, or machine breakdowns. The company operates in a niche space, alongside other players like Kita and Oka.
