BackNine connects its insurance platform to AI assistants

BackNine now allows agents to connect their accounts to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, giving them access to its BOSS and Quote & Apply platforms through plain-language requests.

The connection lets users check pending cases, identify cases needing attention, review electronic applications and confirm carrier appointments. Agents can also request life insurance quotes, start applications and email them to clients.

The integration uses a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which lets AI assistants access tools in other systems. Users connect through their existing BackNine login, with access limited to the information and functions already available to their accounts.

BackNine says it removes HIPAA-protected data from its responses before sending them to the assistant. Information agents enter directly into a chat, including client names and health details, is sent to the AI provider.

The connections currently require custom setup. BackNine says its official ChatGPT and Claude apps are awaiting approval, which would make them available through the platforms’ app directories. “Most of the time it’s one of two things: the plan you’re on doesn’t include custom connections, or your company’s admin has them turned off.”
