Aviva brings AI motion analysis to workplace injury prevention

Aviva is introducing AI-powered motion analysis to help commercial clients identify workplace injury risks.

Developed with health, safety and ergonomics specialist Cardinus Risk Management, the offering gives Aviva’s Risk Management Solutions consultants access to 3MotionAi. The platform analyzes workplace video footage for factors such as posture, movement, repetition, force and duration to detect musculoskeletal risks that conventional assessments may overlook.

Originally developed for sports performance, 3MotionAi is now being used to evaluate how employees perform physical tasks and help businesses determine where interventions are needed.

Aviva said pilots identified some activities as higher risk despite previously being considered low risk.

According to the UK’s Health and Safety Executive, 511,000 workers experienced work-related musculoskeletal disorders in 2024/25, resulting in 7.1 million lost working days.

“Many musculoskeletal risks aren’t immediately obvious. In our pilots we’ve already seen 3Motion identify higher-risk activities that had previously been considered low risk, helping clients take targeted action before injuries occur. By delivering real-time, evidence-based insights into workplace activities, the technology helps organisations focus their efforts where they’ll have the greatest impact, supporting safer workplaces, healthier employees and stronger business performance.” – Gill Milner, Head of Risk Management Solutions, Casualty Classes, at Aviva.
