Ather Energy moves into auto insurance distribution

Ather Energy , the Indian electric two wheeler manufacturer that competes with Ola Electric, is moving into insurance distribution.

The company has confirmed plans to set up a wholly owned subsidiary that will operate as a corporate insurance agent, allowing Ather to distribute motor insurance products directly to its customers. The subsidiary will partner with multiple insurers and focus on offering insurance at the point of vehicle purchase, as well as renewals.

The move aligns Ather with a broader trend among EV makers and mobility platforms seeking greater control over the customer lifecycle, including financing, servicing, and insurance. By entering distribution rather than underwriting, Ather avoids balance sheet risk while still embedding insurance into its sales and ownership experience.
