Artio expands carbon insurance capacity
Specialist carbon insurance provider Artio has enabled more than $200 million of investment into carbon projects, including a recent $30 million carbon-credit pre-purchase by a US-listed company.
The London-based company expects the amount of capital supported by its insurance products to more than double over the next 12 months.

Artio has renewed and expanded its capacity relationships with Tokio Marine GX, Markel, and Apollo, while adding OAK Global to its underwriting panel. OAK Global will participate through OAK Horizon, its climate resilience and technology unit.
Artio provides coverage designed to protect carbon-credit buyers and investors against project, non-delivery, and payment risks. Its clients and distribution partners include insurance brokers, traders, carbon funds, investors, and project developers.
The company is also expanding its underwriting team and recently hired former Aon employee Sunneth Lawrence as senior underwriter.
Artio MGA Services is a Lloyd’s coverholder and a wholly owned subsidiary of Artio Carbon.
