Applications are open for Intact’s Municipal Climate Resiliency Grants program

Intact Financial Corporation  has announced the opening of applications for its 2024 Municipal Climate Resiliency Grants program. The company has doubled its investment to $2 million over two years, supporting Canadian municipalities, registered charities, and Indigenous communities in developing solutions to mitigate the impacts of flooding and wildfires.

This increased funding comes as Intact responds to the growing urgency for climate resilience following a summer of extreme weather events across Canada. “Our teams are working tirelessly to support thousands of customers affected by these events,” said Carla Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy, Climate and People Officer at Intact Financial. “As the frequency of such events rises, our commitment to helping communities build resilience is stronger than ever.”

The grants program aims to fund projects that assess and address vulnerabilities to extreme weather while engaging local residents. Projects should focus on communities most at risk from climate change and include measurable success indicators with the potential for scalability. Funding decisions will be announced in early 2025 to ensure rapid implementation of selected projects.

Since 2010, Intact has invested $25 million in over 100 climate adaptation initiatives. In 2022 alone, the company funded ten projects, including a partnership with Nature-Action Quebec to develop an intervention plan for the Rivière à la Raquette watershed. This work has been pivotal in addressing shoreline erosion and enhancing community safety.
