American Sentinel supports SUNZ’s workers’ comp expansion

American Sentinel Insurance  has received an A- preliminary Financial Strength Assessment from AM Best as it prepares to front workers’ compensation business for parent SUNZ Insurance Company.

The insurer holds licenses in 49 jurisdictions, including New York, New Jersey, Oregon, and Maine, where SUNZ is not directly licensed. That footprint gives SUNZ access to additional markets through American Sentinel.

SUNZ contributed $8.5 million in capital to support the business plan. American Sentinel also shares SUNZ’s management team and technology platform and participates in its reinsurance program.

AM Best’s assessment reflects very strong balance sheet strength, adequate operating performance, a limited business profile, and appropriate enterprise risk management. Its projections anticipate near-term profitability, while recognizing execution risk associated with building the business in a competitive market.

AM Best also assigned an “a-” preliminary Long-Term Issuer Credit Assessment. Both assessments carry a stable outlook and were effective October 6, 2026.
