In the summer of 2016, American Family wanted to understand how it could better help its customers fulfill their dreams, especially those tiptoeing the edge of the poverty line. After delving into customer-focused research and iterating on ideas, the discovery was simple: their customers needed a better way to make more money – not get a better job, not get a hand-out, not save more, but simply make more money.

Enter Chicago-based startup, Moonrise:

Moonrise, wholly owned by AmFam, recently launched its on-demand staffing service. Here’s how it works: workers sign up online, Moonrise verifies their cell number (all of their communication is done via text), and a recruiter reviews their info. If there’s a match, then workers will receive a text requesting a phone screen. If there’s a further match, then Moonrise will help the workers with their onboarding process. One more thing: one can work one day as a dishwasher and the next as a customer service agent, because Moonrise provides job variety.
