Amazon to buy Perceive for $80 million

Xperi, an entertainment technology company, has agreed to sell Perceive to Amazon for $80 million in cash. Perceive focuses on edge inference hardware and software technologies.

The sale reflects the evolving landscape of edge inference technology, which involves processing data closer to the source to improve speed and efficiency.

Amazon’s acquisition of Perceive could enhance its capabilities in this growing field, which has significant potential for applications in smart devices and AI.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, pending customary closing conditions. Xperi’s CEO, Jon Kirchner, expressed confidence that Amazon will advance Perceive’s technology to new heights.

“Since Perceive’s inception, the landscape for edge inference technology has evolved, and Perceive, through the skill of its leaders and engineers, has adapted to this rapidly changing environment. We are pleased to have found a suitable home for Perceive, its employees, and its technology. We are excited that Amazon will be able to take the technology to the next level, which we believe has significant potential.” –  Jon Kirchner, chief executive officer of Xperi.
