Alexander Schmidt becomes Chief Underwriting Officer of Zurich Group Germany
Dr. Alexander Schmidt (42) will become Chief Underwriting Officer of Zurich Group Germany by July 1, 2025 at the latest. He succeeds Dr. Claudia Max, who will leave the Board of Management of Zurich Beteiligungs-AG at the end of the year to take on new challenges outside Zurich Group Germany.
Alexander Schmidt completed his degree in industrial engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). He also received his doctorate from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. Alexander Schmidt began his professional career in 2007 at McKinsey & Company, where he was most recently an Associate Partner and was responsible exclusively for projects in the insurance sector before moving to AXA Global Direct as Chief Claims Officer in 2016. Since 2018, he has held various divisional management positions at AXA Germany. His many years of experience range from claims management to analytics and reinsurance in property insurance to corporate customer business. Here, his focus was primarily on the SME business, where he was responsible for all product management and underwriting at divisional level.
“I am delighted that we have been able to find a competent successor for this key management position. Alexander has extensive management experience in the property insurance business and is therefore ideally placed to successfully manage the private and corporate customer business in line with our strategic objectives. We warmly welcome him to Zurich Group Germany and wish him luck and much success in the challenges that lie ahead. We would like to thank Claudia for her commitment to Zurich Group Germany and wish her all the best for her professional and private future.” – Dr. Carsten Schildknecht, CEO of Zurich Group Germany.
