Admiral backs National Trust Flood-prevention projects
Admiral Group and the National Trust have formed a three-year partnership focused on natural flood prevention across England and Wales. Funded through Admiral’s £600,000 Green Fund, the effort will support restoration work in three upland regions: Eryri (Snowdonia), the Holnicote Estate in Somerset, and the Lake District.
The first project is underway in Wales, where the National Trust is restoring 12 hectares of degraded blanket bog on the Migneint plateau. The work includes reshaping eroded peat, installing peat dams, creating ponds, and re-establishing sphagnum moss to slow water flow, reduce carbon loss, and improve habitats for species such as curlew and dragonflies.
The partnership aims to raise awareness of nature-based flood-mitigation solutions as UK flood exposure grows. Additional restoration efforts in Cumbria and Somerset will begin in the coming months.
