Humana Invests in Buoy Health
Boston-based Buoy Health has raised $15m in Series B funding, bringing its total funding to date to $24m. The round was led by Hambrecht Ducera Growth Ventures, with participation from Humana , F-Prime Capital Partners and Optum Ventures.
Established in 2014, the digital symptom checker is a team of 37 people led by CEO Dr. Andrew Le who’s on a mission to help customers know what to do from the moment they feel sick by easily checking their symptoms and understanding their best options for care.
“When people get sick today, they have to turn into a medical student and an insurance expert. I went into medicine thinking that clinicians are the front-door of health care. They’re not. The internet is. And, when people are sick, they’re left to drown in the complexity of information on the web, leaving them feeling helpless, alone, and scared. At Buoy, we’re obsessed with fixing that paradigm. We want to empower people to get their care in a more personalized and convenient way. We’re here to give people a better front-door to care.” – Dr. Andrew Le.
Also, the company has a B2B proposition; stating that employers can launch an employee benefit to reduce unnecessary doctor visits in lieu of self-care.
Bottom Line: A modern version of webMD that has gone from 105.9k in website visits to 994k in website visits in exactly two years.
