Decent Raises $8M to Build Affordable Healthcare
San Francisco-based Decent recently raised $8M. The startup, led by Nick Soman, plans to “offer more affordable healthcare by aligning incentives to improve health, reduce costs, and put members at the center of their care.”
The Vision – a decentralized protocol and network that makes it simple to spin up a legal health pool with no waste or middleman. Imagine hundreds of pools worldwide, covering a diversity of treatments from acupuncture to nutrition coaching to workout tracking to guided meditations and beyond. A diabetic patient, for instance, can join a pool that rewards him for staying on top of his care. Also, new pools will be formed daily, and if the treatments they cover are effective, then premium costs will go down and more members will save more money. The work once done by traditional insurers – like admissions, claims management, and negotiations – will be handled by software and smart contracts. Members will control their health information, and new data storage methods will help providers coordinate treatment without compromising privacy. Keyword: vision.
