IIASD builds AI connection for independent agent searches

The Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota (IIASD) has built an MCP server for sd.insure, its consumer-facing website, allowing AI applications to access the member agency data behind its Find an Agent map.

The connection uses Model Context Protocol, a standard for connecting AI applications to external data and tools. It supports searches for local independent agencies and can look up rate increases insurers have filed in South Dakota.

In a demonstration shared by IIASD Director of External Affairs Blake Severyn, a homeowners insurance query for Rapid City returned five nearby member agencies, including their websites and phone numbers.

The tool currently requires setup. IIASD expects AI applications to eventually discover and use services like this automatically, positioning its members to appear in AI-assisted insurance searches.
