Progressive’s august premiums rise 6% as combined ratio worsens

Progressive reported $7.6 billion in net premiums written in August 2026, up 6% from a year earlier. Net premiums earned rose 5% to $7.4 billion.

The insurer’s combined ratio was 89.3%, compared with 83.1% in August 2025, a deterioration of 6.2 points. Net income fell 22% to $951 million.

Progressive had 40.5 million policies in force at the end of August, up 7% from a year earlier. Auto policies grew in both channels: 9% in direct and 7% through agents.

Property policies were essentially flat at 3.6 million.
