Allstate claims a piece of Countrywide history
National General has applied to trademark IhaveInsurance, the name of an insurance-verification platform with roots stretching back to Countrywide Financial.
The August 3 application covers insurance, loan and mortgage administration and verification services, as well as software for submitting and managing evidence of insurance. National General claims first use of the mark in March 2012, although the ihaveinsurance.com platform itself is considerably older.
A 2000 corporate report from Countrywide-owned Balboa Life & Casualty shows that Balboa introduced ihaveinsurance.com that year. The website allowed homeowners to verify coverage online and supported automobile insurance verification and insurance tracking for lenders.
Today, ihaveinsurance.com remains active, helping mortgage servicers collect and verify evidence of homeowners insurance. NOVA Home Loans directs borrowers to a dedicated page where they can upload documents or connect directly to their insurance carrier through Axle , while U.S. Bank also uses the platform for insurance updates.

The platform has traveled through several corporate owners. Bank of America acquired Countrywide in 2008 and sold Balboa’s lender-placed insurance business to QBE in 2011. National General acquired QBE’s US lender-placed insurance operation—including its loan-tracking activity, systems and platforms—in 2015. Allstate then acquired National General in 2021.
