The Tesla of Pet Insurance
The pet insurance industry is no longer a simple growth story. Growth is slowing, ownership is consolidating, startups continue to disappear, and distribution is increasingly concentrated among a handful of brands and partners.
It remains an underpenetrated market, although that raises the question of what the realistic ceiling for adoption actually is. It is also a highly fragmented industry, yet many distribution channels ultimately lead back to the same few players, including JAB and even the challenged Wag ecosystem.
And still, new underwriting capacity continues to emerge, new embedded channels are opening up, and AI-driven experiences are reshaping how consumers shop for coverage—suggesting that some players are still very much playing to win, some more fairly than others.
