PLM appoints Courtney Flanagan VP of claims

Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual (PLM), a mutual insurer specializing in the lumber, woodworking, and building materials sectors, providing property and casualty coverage to more than 5,000 businesses across the US, has appointed Courtney Flanagan as vice president of claims.

Flanagan will oversee the insurer’s claims operations and strategy, with responsibilities that include claims performance, team development, and claims service delivery for policyholders nationwide.

She joins PLM from Encova Insurance, where she served as vice president of claims and led litigation operations across more than 20 jurisdictions while overseeing commercial casualty claims strategy. Her background also includes leadership roles in litigation, medical claims, and casualty operations, in addition to experience as a practicing attorney. Flanagan earned her Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School and holds an undergraduate degree from Indiana University.

Flanagan succeeds John Kennealy, who will retire in August after more than seven years leading PLM’s claims organization and a 43-year career in the insurance industry.

“Courtney’s depth of experience, strategic mindset and proven leadership make her an outstanding addition to the PLM team. Her strong technical expertise and collaborative approach will help us continue delivering the high level of service our policyholders expect while further strengthening our claims operations for the future.” – Steve Firko, president of PLM.
