Insurance Canopy launches drone coverage for creatives and small businesses

Insurance Canopy  is introducing drone liability and equipment coverage as an add-on to its Full Frame Insurance (FFI) program, targeting photographers, videographers, and other creative professionals using drones for paid work.

The update allows policyholders to bundle drone-related risks into a single business policy, covering bodily injury, property damage, and equipment loss tied to drone operations. The move addresses a common gap in standard liability policies, which often exclude or limit aircraft-related exposure.

The coverage is designed for commercial use rather than hobbyists, reflecting increased adoption of drones across real estate, events, and production workflows. According to the company, the goal is to simplify protection for working professionals and align insurance with how content businesses operate today.

“Drones have gone from being a specialized tool to an essential part of doing business. This expanded coverage reflects how photographers and videographers actually work today and gives them a better way to protect their business and the equipment they rely on.” – Chris Van Leeuwen, Vice President of Professional Development.

As background, Daryle Stafford launched Insurance Canopy in 2016 after struggling to place coverage for underserved markets. Along the way, he also built InsCipher to handle complex surplus lines tax filings, turning an internal tool into a separate business. Today, the broader Veracity Insurance Solutions ecosystem serves over 1 million customers, focusing on solopreneurs and small businesses often overlooked by traditional insurers.

Bottom Line: A middleman cutting out the middleman.
