MGIS extends disability insurance to Advanced Practice Clinicians

MGIS is extending its specialized disability insurance offerings to Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs), expanding coverage beyond physicians as demand for nurse practitioners and physician assistants continues to grow. The move builds on MGIS’s partnership with Reliance Matrix , which provides financial protection and absence management solutions.

APCs now deliver roughly a quarter of all healthcare visits in the US, with federal labor data projecting rapid growth in both nurse practitioner and physician assistant roles over the next decade. MGIS and Reliance Matrix partnered in 2023 and currently offer disability, life, and AD&D coverage to physicians through independent brokers, with additional services including integrated absence management for medical group practices.

“We’re extending our specialized disability insurance to APCs to keep pace with emerging market needs. As the demand for APCs grows, so does their income. Additionally, the APC role is expanding to include direct patient care in many states. As a result, MGIS’s unique ‘actual procedures’ definition of disability will allow APCs to get the coverage they need to protect their growing specialized income.” – Jeff Brunken, President of MGIS.

“We recognize the increasingly important value that this emerging segment provides to patients. We’re excited about the opportunity to grow our shared program to better serve the APC community. They provide a critical service and have helped to ease the doctor shortage that has become so apparent since the pandemic.” – Dave Shaw, Chief Underwriting Officer at Reliance Matrix.
