Markel names Preeti Gureja Chief Risk Officer for U.S. and Bermuda

Markel Insurance, the insurance business of Markel , has appointed Preeti Gureja as Chief Risk Officer, U.S. & Bermuda, subject to regulatory approvals.

Gureja will lead the risk agenda across Markel’s U.S. and Bermuda insurance operations, reporting to Henry Gardener, Chief Risk Officer of Markel Insurance. Her mandate includes supporting underwriting, reinsurance, and capital decisions with forward-looking risk analysis, strengthening risk appetites, and enhancing risk reporting and regulatory engagement.

She joins Markel from Chubb, where she served as Senior Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management, leading global ERM efforts and board and regulatory reporting, with a focus on emerging risks such as cyber, climate, and geopolitical exposures. Earlier, she held senior risk roles at AIG, helping build the firm’s risk framework, including risk appetite and stress testing.

Gureja will be based in New York.
