Nationwide names Michael Carrel CTO

Nationwide has named Michael Carrel as its new Chief Technology Officer, succeeding Jim Fowler, who is leaving to join Lumen Technologies in January 2026.

Carrel has spent more than 30 years with Nationwide Technology, most recently serving as CTO for Nationwide Financial, where he oversaw all technology supporting the company’s financial services businesses.

Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker said Carrel will lead enterprise AI and technology adoption as the company enters its centennial year.
