CIG increases homeowners capacity in Paradise
Capital Insurance Group , part of Auto-Owners , is increasing the number of homeowners policies it will write in Paradise, California, giving more residents a path out of the California FAIR Plan seven years after the Camp Fire.
The decision follows ongoing rebuilding efforts and aligns with CIG’s partnership with the Rebuild Paradise Foundation, which has helped residents navigate construction, mitigation, and preparedness standards. The company says it is focusing on homes that meet wildfire-resilience criteria, including the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home designation, allowing CIG to insure properties that fall outside typical underwriting strictness but still meet safety standards.
CIG leadership described the move as both operational and personal. Company executives say the Camp Fire marked a turning point for the insurer and that supporting Paradise reflects its commitment to communities across the West. While capacity limits remain, CIG plans to continue expanding access to coverage for qualifying homes as the town advances its mitigation work and more properties meet the requirements for standard-market insurance.
