Allianz introduces agentic AI to speed up food spoilage claims
Allianz rolled out its first agentic AI system, Project Nemo, to automate food spoilage claims during storms and other natural catastrophes. The tool cuts processing times from days to hours by coordinating seven specialized AI agents that handle coverage checks, weather verification, fraud screening and payout calculations.
Despite the automation, a human adjuster still makes the final payment decision. The model is designed to clear backlogs during high-volume events without removing human oversight.
Launched in Australia in July 2025, Nemo processes claims under AUD$500 in less than a day—and often within hours—freeing staff to focus on complex cases. Allianz built and deployed the system in under 100 days and plans to extend the modular agentic framework to other simple, high-frequency claims across travel, auto and property.
“With ‘Project Nemo’ as our first integrated agentic AI solution, we’re achieving an impressive 80% reduction in claim processing and settlement time. This does not only boost productivity in our claims departments but also significantly enhances insurance customer satisfaction.” – Maria Janssen, Chief Transformation Officer at Allianz Services.
