Liberty Mutual promotes Nate Zangerle to President, Global Surety

Liberty Mutual announced that Nate Zangerle has been named president, Global Surety, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Zangerle will report directly to Neeti Bhalla Johnson, president, Global Risk Solutions (GRS), and will lead strategy and growth for the Global Surety business.

Zangerle’s new role takes effect following the retirement of current Global Surety President Tim Mikolajewski on Dec. 31, 2025. With knowledge stemming from over 40 years in insurance, Mikolajewski will remain with Liberty Mutual in a strategic role to support Zangerle’s transition and shape GRS’ newly launched infrastructure practice.

Zangerle is currently serving as both GRS Chief Underwriting Officer, Global Surety, and Credit Global Product Leader. In these roles he has shaped underwriting and reinsurance strategies, established risk appetite and operating plans, and chaired the Credit Global Product Board (CGPB), which sets priorities and protocols for GRS’s credit product lines.

Zangerle has been with Liberty Mutual since 1998, holding various underwriting roles including CUO, Specialty, and Chief Operating Officer, Global Risks.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and German from Denison University. He has participated in industry organizations including the Associated General Contractors of America, the Construction Financial Management Association, the National Association of Surety Bond Producers, and the Surety & Fidelity Association of America.

“I’m honored to lead Global Surety and energized by the opportunities ahead. We have a strong foundation — built on deep expertise, trusted relationships and a commitment to innovation — and I look forward to building on that momentum. I’m also grateful for Tim’s leadership and his continued support during this transition.” – Nate Zangerle.
