Optain raises $26 million

Optain has raised $26 million in an oversubscribed Series A round led by Insight Partners, with participation from seven U.S. health systems including Memorial Hermann, Northwell Health , Novant Health, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and UPMC. This round brings the company’s total funding to $38 million.

The company, with a team of over 20 employees according to LinkedIn, uses AI, robotic retinal imaging, and teleophthalmology to detect eye and systemic diseases earlier through a portable, non-invasive test.

The funding will support U.S. expansion, enterprise deployments, and international growth, with health system investors beginning to roll out the platform across their networks.

Optain’s technology, rooted in Australian research, aims to expand access to oculomics in primary care and beyond.

“Optain represents our conviction in the power of better AI—deployed at the edge, inside clinical workflows. By making retinopathy screening truly accessible, Optain is already changing care delivery—and we believe it will become the upstream gateway in primary care for AI-driven diagnoses across many conditions.” – Scott Barclay, Managing Director at Insight Partners.
