Progressive underwrites new pet insurance product

Progressive Premier Insurance Company of Illinois is the underwriter behind a new pet insurance product marketed under the “PUP Pet Insurance Plan” brand.

According to filings in Georgia and North Carolina, the plan is administered by Companion Protect Agency, LLC, with Progressive serving as the underwriting carrier. The coverage includes accident and illness protection for dogs and cats, with optional routine care benefits.

The launch follows last year’s announcement of a partnership between Companion Protect and Progressive to introduce a new pet insurance program.

It remains to be seen how this development will impact Progressive’s longstanding affinity relationship with Pets Best .
