Zoox begins robotaxi testing in Los Angeles
Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous vehicle unit, has begun testing its robotaxis in Los Angeles.
LA is the sixth testing location for the company, which also operates in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, Austin, and Miami.
Zoox will deploy a small number of retrofitted test fleet vehicles, equipped with safety drivers, in a small area of the Los Angeles metro area. The company will first send the test fleet to complete manual mapping missions before beginning autonomous driving later this summer.
In 2020, Amazon acquired Zoox for over $1.2 billion after the startup raised ~$1 billion in funding.
