Tandem appoints Matt Dobson as Chief Financial Officer

Tandem Bank  has promoted Matt Dobson, its Treasury Director, to the role of Chief Financial Officer, subject to regulatory approval. Dobson, who joined Tandem 18 months ago, brings 25 years of experience in UK banking, including roles at Barclays, Bank North, and Furness Building Society. His contributions include leading Tandem’s £250M Second Charge Mortgage securitisation earlier this year.

Dobson succeeds Dave McCarthy, who originally joined Tandem for a two-year term to oversee the integration of Oplo, Allium, and Tandem into a unified entity. Under McCarthy’s leadership, Tandem achieved underlying profitability, growing profits nearly fivefold in 2023 to £17M and doubling deposits to over £3.6B. McCarthy will remain in a regulatory role until the end of December to ensure a smooth transition.

CEO Alex Mollart praised Dobson’s dedication to Tandem’s mission of helping UK consumers adopt a lower-carbon lifestyle, highlighting his role in strengthening Tandem’s financial strategy. Mollart also commended McCarthy for his instrumental work in transforming Tandem into a profitable, customer-focused bank. Dobson will formally assume his new position on January 1, 2025.
