Remembering Harvey Sigelbaum
Harvey Charles Sigelbaum, former President of Amalgamated Life and a lifelong New Yorker, has passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by family. Sigelbaum, known for his deep industry expertise and vibrant personality, left a lasting impact on the insurance sector and countless lives he touched.
Harvey Sigelbaum was a prominent figure in the insurance and benefits industry, holding executive roles at companies like Amalgamated Life, Urban Community Insurance, and MultiPlan, Inc. His leadership extended beyond business, serving on numerous boards, both for-profit and non-profit, and being appointed by President Clinton to the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
Sigelbaum’s influence extended far beyond his professional achievements. He was a beloved family man, storyteller, and friend to many. Fondly referred to as “FOH” (Friends of Harvey), his inner circle recalls his generosity, warmth, and passion for sharing stories — often over a pastrami sandwich from Manhattan’s iconic 2nd Avenue Deli.
Harvey’s legacy continues through his wife Barbara, their four children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His profound belief in the importance of family and connection remains an inspiration to all who knew him. As Harvey himself once said, “The most meaningful thing is family. Everything else is boloney.”
