Greenlight Re seeking new CEO

A source familiar with Greenlight Re has shared that the board is looking to replace CEO Simon Burton, who joined the company in 2017. The search didn’t proceed quietly or as planned, as we have learned about it.

As background, Greenlight Re is a Cayman Islands-based reinsurance company. Simon Burton was appointed as its new CEO, effective July 1, 2017, succeeding Leonard Goldberg, who remained on the Board of Directors.

At the time, David Einhorn, Chairman of the Board, expressed confidence in Burton’s leadership due to his extensive insurance and reinsurance experience. Burton had previously served as CEO of SAC Re and held various roles at Lancashire Group and ACE Limited.

Over the years, Greenlight Re has participated in at least 28 insurtech funding rounds, with noteworthy portfolio companies including Coterie, Openly, and Sana Benefits.
