State Auto to exit personal lines insurance
In a message shared with its agency partners, State Auto , a regional personal and commercial insurer, announced that it is discontinuing quoting and bridging capabilities for personal lines business through all comparative raters as of Oct. 8, 2022.
All active State Auto agencies can continue to quote and issue business directly through the State Auto Connect portal.
“Beginning on Oct. 8, 2022, State Auto Personal Lines will no longer appear on comparative rater platforms. In the event of a direct quoting connection through a comparative rater, the following message will display: “A rate is not available for quotes entered on or after 10/8/2022. All active State Auto agencies can continue to quote and issue State Auto Personal Lines business directly through the State Auto Connect portal.””
As background, Liberty Mutual acquired State Auto for $2.3 billion in July 2021. We reached out to State Auto and here’s the comment provided:
“As we continue the integration of State Auto into the Liberty Mutual Insurance organization, we continue to look for ways to offer competitive products responsive to the needs of customers. We shared with agents in August that State Auto will cease writing new personal lines policies at the end of this year, subject to confirmation of state insurance regulatory considerations. Safeco and other Liberty Mutual companies will continue offering personal lines new business policies to consumers in states where State Auto currently writes personal lines business.”
