Accounting Manager

Verifly is built on a simple idea: one-size-fits-all annual insurance coverage doesn’t meet the needs of modern business. Our on-demand episodic insurance was designed to provide a more flexible and affordable alternative to annual plans, with coverage by the hour, the day, or the month for businesses and their crew. As Verifly’s first accounting hire, you’ll lead the creation and development of a world-class accounting department. Reporting to the VP of Finance + Operations, you’ll have the full support of the company to implement processes and procedures (month-end close, T&E, A/P, internal controls, tax reporting, etc.) that will be instrumental in creating the infrastructure of one of NY’s fastest growing tech startups.

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements accounting close process
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including Accounts Payable and payroll reconciliation
  • Continually develop, expand, and improve month end close and financial reporting procedures and help drive the reduction of the close timeline by assessing and streamlining close-related activities; same for day-today accounting operations
  • Lead the configuration (Financial Statements, dashboards, etc.) of Microsoft Dynamics 365 to leverage the most out the accounting system
  • Alongside the VP of Finance + Operations, provide monthly budget vs actual variance analysis to management
  • Lead annual external audit process
  • Manage and comply with state, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • In time, recruit, lead, and develop a world-class accounting team

  • Master’s Degree, Accounting or MBA preferred
  • CPA required
  • 3 – 6 years at a big 4 Accounting Firm; additional 2 – 4 years at a high-growth startup preferred
  • Technical knowledge of accounting (US GAAP) particularly around topics inherent with venture-backed, technology companies (stock-based compensation, software capitalization, NOLs, etc.)
  • Desire to create processes and procedures from scratch and oversee their successful deployment companywide
  • Working knowledge of multiple entity structuring, intercompany transactions, and foreign currencies
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact and interface with all levels of management (both written and verbal)
  • Relentless attention to detail and accuracy
  • International experience a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Training & Development
  • Work From Home
  • Stock Option Plan
